Legislative Agenda

  • End the six week abortion ban

This will take some time and likely another election. We must continue to work hard to put a Democrat in the Governor’s Mansion in 2026 to give the women of the Palmetto State control of their own bodies.

  • Bring Down Home & Rental Prices

By the year 2030 private equity is on track to own 40% or more of all single family homes in the United States. We must find a way to get large institutional investors out of the real estate market in South Carolina and nationally. I am working with legislators in California and Texas to help craft legislation for South Carolina that would loosen big businesses’ grip on home ownership and give the American Dream back to the People.

  • Addressing Medical Debt

Over 20% of South Carolinians are in collections for something that is completely beyond their control. Medical debt. No one ever plans or wants to be in medical debt but when emergency strikes it becomes unavoidable. That 20% becomes even higher when you go to communities of color. So far the people in charge of the Palmetto State have done next to nothing to address this critical issue.

Together with my colleagues in the House I will work to study proven measures that been taken in other states such as partnering with charitable organizations to buy the debt at a fraction of it’s initial cost, controlling the maximum interest rate allowed on medical debt, and keeping medical debt off of your credit report.
